In which I talk about moving
I am stinky and sore. I spent Saturday taking a first crack at the move. Joyce brought up her parents’ mini-van, Endo came over, and we packed a good chunk of the bigger stuff (kitchen table, computer desk, sofa, TV, two kitchen chairs) into the the mini-van and my car along with a lot of smaller stuff. Joyce and I drove down and unloaded it with the help of Saryn and her mom. In return, I helped Saryn get a large load of her stuff moved into my garage.
(Saryn has graduated with her education degree but finding a job has proven difficult. Her lease is up at the end of the month and she still isn’t sure which city she will be working in. So she is moving the bulk of her stuff into my garage until she finds a place.)
Joyce is going to bring the van back up on Sunday. (Apparently her parents are grateful that I replaced their kitchen sink for them.) I will get the rest of the big stuff loaded (coffee table, office chair, other 2 kitchen chairs, bookshelves, metal shelves, dresser, and bed). Then I should be able to handle everything else in my own car. Whatever I don’t get moved on Sunday, I can move on Monday. Tuesday will be for cleaning, and I turn my keys in on Wednesday.
I have my computer desk put together in the new place and I fired up the TV. I can get some HDTV signals, which is nice. I won’t have to spring for cable, although I might anyway if that’s how I get my Internet service.
The drive between my old place (and the DataWave office in Wausau) and my new place is about 40 miles and takes 45 minutes. Doing a little math in my head says that I will be spending about $120 a month in gas if I come up 5 times a week. Not something I relish. Hopefully I’ll be able to do some telecommuting.
Risk clones have been eating my time. World Conquest is a simplistic version, but it’s free. Lux is much more interesting, but I really don’t want to spring $25 for the pleasure.
