I Shoulda Stood In Bed

Some days it just doesn’t pay to leave the house.

Sunday was a beautiful spring day. Mostly sunny, brisk wind, and warm temperatures. I figured that I could spend the afternoon shopping for a programming book and taking my kite out for the first time this year.

I hopped in the car and headed for the bookstore. Eventually I noticed that the parking lots sure seemed empty. I was almost to the bookstore before I figured out that everything was closed on Easter Sunday.

Well, at least I could still fly my kite. I headed to Pioneer Park and started to set up. The wind was really blowing and the lack of an assistant was really hampering my efforts. I finally got the kite in the air but it would just spiral insanely to the right and then crash no matter what I did. I figured there must be a tangle in the rigging so I took a look. Sure enough, there was. After I fixed it I decided to untwist the lines as I walked back to the end of the lines. I had almost made it to the end when a huge gust of wind came up and the kite leapt off the ground. It shot into the air, there was a loud crack, and it fluttered to the ground like a wounded bird. The twists and tangles in the lines snapped one of them in two as soon as the kite pulled on it. I gathered up the kite and line and threw the mess in the trunk.

I though that maybe some nasty fast food might make me feel better. No luck there either. This town really shuts down on Easter Sunday.

Luckily Belt’s Soft Serve was open. I was feeling a lot better after a black forest flurry.

And when I got home, I took a nap. Some days you should just stay in bed.
